Tony Arnerich founded Arnerich Massena in 1991 to provide a source for thoughtful, forward-looking, independent investment advice. As chief executive officer for more than 25 years, Tony has directed the development of the firm, managing strategic growth and firm direction. Under Tony’s guidance, Arnerich Massena has been a pioneer in the investment industry, bringing innovation to portfolio construction for private clients, foundations, and endowments. The firm has been a frontrunner and early adopter in implementing alternative strategies, capturing the global market opportunity, and incorporating sustainable investment themes. Mr. Arnerich also serves as managing director of 3x5 Partners, a growth-oriented venture capital firm that invests in life sciences and resource-driven sectors.

Tony Arnerich’s experience in the investment industry spans more than 30 years, during which he served as an investment executive and helped found the Investment Management Consulting Group of Dain Bosworth. In prior years, he owned and managed businesses in the Pacific Northwest. Mr. Arnerich earned a Bachelor of Arts from Santa Clara University. He is also a former FINRA Series 7, 63, and 24 license holder.

Tony Arnerich founded an award-winning business-to-school partnership with Portland's Irvington School, which represents a significant commitment of funding and employee volunteer time to neighborhood schools. He has volunteered as an I AM Learning Partner with this program for more than 20 years. I AM Learning Partners volunteer as mentors, working directly with children in Arnerich Massena’s I AM Learning Partnership math, literacy, enrichment, and summer camp programs at a local elementary school.

As managing director of Institutional Services, Terri Schwartz is responsible for the firm’s Institutional Services division, providing oversight of the firm’s services to corporate and non-profit plan clients. She also oversees the firm’s business development team. Terri Schwartz serves on the firm’s Board of Directors.

Ms. Schwartz brings more than 30 years of industry experience in financial and investment consulting, client relations, and executive business planning. Prior to joining Arnerich Massena in 2015, she served as director of Consultant Relations for Cutwater Asset Management, a BNY Mellon Company, representing Cutwater’s investment management services programs and maintaining consultant and client relationships. She also worked as a financial consultant/principal and director of client relations at Northwest Capital Management. Other positions include sales and marketing roles for Arnerich Massena & Associates, Inc., the Investment Consulting Group of Dain Bosworth, and Salomon Smith Barney.

Ms. Schwartz is a former FINRA Series 7, 63, and 3 license holder. She is a board member of the American Cancer Society Oregon and Southwest Washington and also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Randall Children’s Hospital Foundation.

As a senior consultant for the institutional practice, James Ellis consults to corporate and not-for-profit organizations in the institutional client group, serving a wide range of clients. He is experienced in guiding fiduciaries to meet their strategic goals, with experience working with foundations and endowments, healthcare institutions, corporate and non-profit defined benefit and defined contribution plans, and Taft-Hartley plans.

Mr. Ellis brings 21 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Arnerich Massena in 2018, he served as director of institutional consulting for Buck Consultants, where he advised institutional clients on the development of investment policy, asset allocation, plan design, pension de-risking strategies, investment and menu structure, and fund evaluation, as well as implementing custom client solutions. He also previously served as vice president of the institutional services group for The Commerce Trust Company, as vice president and consultant relationship manager for Scout Investments, and as a consultant for Mercer.

James Ellis earned his B.A. in economics from the University of Georgia. He carries the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and served the St. Louis CFA Society as president, treasurer, director, and chairman of programming committee between the years of 2006-2011. He is a past member of the Association of Investment Management Sales Executives (AIMSE), the Healthcare Management Association (HFMA), the Investment Management Institute (IMI), and the Defined Contribution Institutional Investment Association (DCIIA).

As senior wealth strategist, Glen Goland advises clients in financial planning and specialty areas, serving as technical expert and resource on matters of estate, wealth transfer, tax, and financial planning. He works closely with Arnerich Massena’s team of investment advisors to provide comprehensive wealth planning services to clients. As investment advisor, he is responsible for the development, execution, and ongoing maintenance of client investment programs, client portfolio management, and developing client relationships.

Mr. Goland has more than 15 years of experience in the financial industry. Prior to joining Arnerich Massena in 2017, he served as wealth advisor for Confluence Wealth Management, counseling families and small businesses on all aspects of investment and financial planning matters as a registered investment advisor. Previously, he spent four years practicing as an estate planning attorney with Samuels Yoelin Kantor, LLP; in this role, he studied under some of Portland’s prominent estate planning attorneys while drafting documents, preparing estate and trust tax returns, probating estates, and advising clients on a variety of legal issues.

Glen Goland earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School, cum laude where he spent two years clerking at the Boston-based boutique estate planning firm Squillace and Associates, LLP. He is a Certified Financial Planner and has been licensed to practice law in the states of Oregon and Massachusetts. He is a former FINRA Series 6, 7, and 66 license holder, and former life, accident, and health insurance license holder.

Mr. Goland is an Eagle Scout and serves on the Endowment Committee of the Cascade Pacific Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is a former member of the Fundraising Committee at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, where he helped the team at OMSI build out their planned giving initiative and spoke to donors about estate and tax planning issues.

As consultant for Institutional Services, Luka Arnerich consults to corporate and not-for-profit organizations in the institutional client group. He is experienced in defined benefit and defined contribution plan management, including investment menu design and investment management research, and brings expertise in consulting to endowments and foundations.

Mr. Arnerich has more than 12 years of experience in the financial industry. He joined Arnerich Massena in 2013. Prior to joining the firm, he served as CCO & director of operations for SC Management, Inc., where he was responsible for the daily operational functions of a short biased hedge fund.

Luka Arnerich earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration, with a finance major, from the University of Arizona. He is a current FINRA Series 65 license holder. Mr. Arnerich has earned his Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation.

Luka Arnerich has been an I AM Learning Partner for six years. I AM Learning Partners volunteer as mentors, working directly with children in Arnerich Massena's I AM Learning Partnership math, literacy, enrichment, and summer camp programs at a local elementary school. As managing director of Wealth Management, Reegan Rae is responsible for the firm’s Wealth Management division, providing oversight of the firm’s services to private clients. Ms. Rae also serves on the Board of Directors, helping to guide the firm’s strategic direction. As Wealth Management senior investment advisor, Reegan Rae is responsible for the development, execution, and ongoing maintenance of client portfolio investment programs, client portfolio management, and developing client relationships. Ms. Rae has earned her Certified Private Wealth Advisor ® (CPWA®) designation, an advanced credential created specifically for wealth advisors who work with high net worth individuals and families that provides training in the development of strategies to minimize taxes, monetize and protect assets, maximize growth, and transfer wealth to the next generation strategically.

Reegan Rae has more than 14 years of experience in the financial industry. Prior to joining Arnerich Massena in 2012, she served as a registered principal and member firm relationship manager for M Holding Securities (the broker-dealer of M Financial Group), and as financial advisor for AXA Advisors.

Reegan Rae is a current member of the Oregon chapter of the YPO (Young Presidents’ Organization), the premier leadership organization of chief executives in the world. YPO is the global platform for chief executives to engage, learn, and grow, and members must meet criteria such as holding the top position of a qualifying company or division, directly responsible for all operations of the business or division. Ms. Rae was also a Portland Business Journal Forty Under 40 honoree in 2019; the Forty Under 40 honors young professionals for outstanding leadership in their careers and compelling community involvement. She is also an invitee and current member of the Portland Business Journal’s Women’s Business Coalition. Additionally, she was also in the Portland Business Alliance’s Leadership Portland Class of 2017, a program developing upper-level business leaders to work together to positively impact the community.

Ms. Rae earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Oregon. She is a current FINRA Series 65 license holder and former FINRA Series 7, 66, and 24 license holder. She has also held insurance licenses in Oregon and Washington.

As senior wealth management investment advisor, Melody Behnke is responsible for the development, execution, and ongoing maintenance of client portfolio investment programs, client portfolio management, and developing client relationships.

Ms. Behnke brings more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Arnerich Massena in 2019, she served as a president and CEO of River Summit Consulting, LLC, a firm she founded to provide strategic growth, business development and practice management consulting services to professionals and institutions in the insurance, benefits, and investment fields. She also served as director and vice president of Member Firm Development for M Financial Group, a leading distributor of wealth transfer, executive benefits, and wealth management solutions to affluent and corporate clients. Over her 14-year tenure with the firm, she oversaw the integration of new member firms, marketers, and professional staff into the community, leading a team of relationship managers focused on helping member firms identify strategic direction, goals, growth opportunities, and operational refinements that would most effectively expand their practices. Prior to M Financial, she also served as vice president of firm relations at National Financial Partners Corp. in New York, where she managed relationships with acquired firms. She also served as director of The Private Consulting Group, leading the team of client relations, case design, asset management, and insurance professional staff.

Melody Behnke earned an MBA from Portland State University. She has earned her CFP® (Certified Financial Planner) designation and is a member of the AALU (Association for Advanced Life Underwriting). She is a former FINRA Series 7, 24, and 63 license holder, and holds Oregon life and health insurance licenses.

Ms. Behnke served in various roles in the Armed Forces. She retired in 2009 from the Oregon Air National Guard after 26 years of service at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and in the position of Deputy, Mission Support Group Commander.

Mr. Van Dyke has deep experience consulting to corporations, endowments and foundations, and not-for-profit organizations.

Mr. Van Dyke has more than 19 years of experience in the financial industry. Prior to joining Arnerich Massena in 2012, he served as principal, director of manager research, and consultant at Pavilion Advisory Group and as assistant vice president and consultant at CTC Consulting, Inc.

Chris Van Dyke earned his Bachelor of Science in economics from the University of Oregon. He has earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designations and is a member of the CFA Society of Portland. He is an active speaker at industry events and has provided instruction for multiple universities and professional groups including Portland State University and CPWA courses at the Chicago Booth School of Business.

Chris Van Dyke has been an I AM Learning Partner for six years. I AM Learning Partners volunteer as mentors, working directly with children in Arnerich Massena’s I AM Learning Partnership math, literacy, enrichment, and summer camp programs at a local elementary school. Mr. Van Dyke sits on the finance committee for Tuality Hospital Foundation.

As Wealth Management advisor, Ryland Moore is responsible for the development, execution, and ongoing maintenance of client portfolio investment programs, client portfolio management, and developing client relationships. As director of business development, his responsibilities include client relations and business development, primarily with foundations and endowments and high net worth families. He also acts as a subject matter expert for the firm in review of non-traditional investments, with a particular emphasis on energy, water, and agriculture.

Mr. Moore has more than 16 years of experience in the financial industry. He joined Arnerich Massena in 2012. Prior to joining the firm, he spent the previous 13 years in various roles focusing on the investment, development, acquisition, and divestiture of water, farm, ranchland, and renewable energy assets on behalf of individual investors, private and public companies, private equity, and municipalities throughout the western United States.

Ryland Moore earned a Master of Community and Regional Planning degree from the University of Oregon and a Bachelor of Science degree in natural resources with a concentration in economics from the University of the South (Sewanee). He is a FINRA Series 65 license holder, as well as an Oregon Real Estate license holder.

Ryland Moore has been an I AM Learning Partner for seven years. I AM Learning Partners volunteer as mentors, working directly with children in Arnerich Massena's I AM Learning Partnership math, literacy, enrichment, and summer camp programs at a local elementary school. Additionally, he serves as President of the Board of Directors of the Oregon Wildlife Foundation, as a Board member and Investment Committee member for Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon, and as a member of the Headwater’s Council for the Freshwater Trust. He also serves as an Endowment Committee member of Boy Scouts of America – Cascade-Pacific Council. As Philanthropic Advisor, Katherine Fox advises clients on all aspects of charitable giving and building a philanthropic strategy. She works closely with individuals and families to help them become educated and involved donors, develop a family legacy of giving, and implement plans to give away larger sums of money. She also serves as a client resource for other financial planning and specialty areas including education funding, cash flow planning, wealth transfer, and tax planning. She works closely with Arnerich Massena's team of investment advisors to provide comprehensive wealth planning services to clients.

Prior to joining Arnerich Massena in 2017, she managed individuals’ investment and trust relationships as part of The Private Bank at Wells Fargo. Previously, she worked as part of the corporate practice group in the Washington D.C. office of Mintz Levin, providing venture capital and mergers and acquisitions deal support for transactions in the cleantech and healthcare sectors.

Katherine Fox earned her B.A. cum laude from Barnard College. She is a current FINRA Series 65 license holder and is a Certified Financial Planner®. She has also earned her Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®) certification.

Ms. Fox serves as a volunteer educator and mentor with Financial Beginnings, an organization that provides personal finance educational programs to give individuals a foundation to make informed financial decisions.

As co-Chief Investment Officer, Bryan Shipley is responsible for overseeing the firm’s investment strategy, product selection, investment guidelines and policies, and model portfolio construction. Mr. Shipley provides thought leadership for the firm, helping to establish Arnerich Massena’s investment philosophy and future investment considerations. As Co-CIO, he is also responsible for the directing the Investment and Product Committees and for the management of Arnerich Massena’s Analytics team.

Mr. Shipley has more than 18 years of experience in the financial industry. Prior to joining Arnerich Massena in 2003, Mr. Shipley served as an associate for Wurts & Associates (now known as Verus), where he conducted traditional and alternative investment manager research and due diligence and oversaw a planned giving investment program. His responsibilities also included asset allocation modeling, performance evaluation and attribution reporting, and quarterly market analysis.

Mr. Shipley holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a concentration in finance from Western Washington University. He has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society of Portland. He also holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation.

Thomas (Arthur) Coyne's responsibilities include research in strategic and tactical asset allocation, capital markets, portfolio risk analysis, and the completion of primary and ongoing manager due diligence.

Mr. Coyne's investment industry experience spans more than 30 years. Prior to joining Arnerich Massena in 2012, he served as the manager of Consulting Services for the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation and as chief investment officer at Northwest Capital Management. Previously, between 2000 and 2005, he held the position of senior research analyst with Arnerich Massena.

Mr. Coyne holds a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in computer engineering from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. He has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of CFA Portland.

Anita Kekona

As client services and RFP administrator, Anita Kekona is responsible for the project management of vendor requests for proposals (RFPs) and finalist presentation projects for Arnerich Massena’s Institutional practice, as well as providing administrative support and serving as liaison between supported individuals, the internal organization, clients, and providers. As analytics administrator, Ms. Kekona prepares fund manager searches across multiple asset classes, tracks manager due diligence, and is responsible for various research and special projects deliverables in the firm’s Analytical department.

Ms. Kekona joined Arnerich Massena in 2014, bringing more than 16 years of administrative support experience. Most recently, she served as executive assistant to the president of Equity Capital Markets at D.A. Davidson & Co., as executive administrator with Langley Investment Properties, and as executive assistant to the executive managing director at Grubb & Ellis Co.

Anita Kekona studied at Portland State University. She is a member of Toastmasters – Civil Tongues.

Ms. Kekona has been an I AM Learning Partner for one year. I AM Learning Partners volunteer as mentors, working directly with children in Arnerich Massena’s I AM Learning Partnership math, literacy, enrichment, and summer camp programs at a local elementary school. Additionally, she volunteers with the Oregon Food Bank and the Red Cross.

Matt Bryant’s primary responsibilities include researching and sourcing new investment managers and completing ongoing due diligence, with a focus on private markets, particularly private equity, private real estate, and hedge strategies. Additional responsibilities include client projects such as fund manager searches, investment portfolio analysis, and industry analysis. He previously served as a performance measurement analyst at Arnerich Massena.

Mr. Bryant has more than 11 years of experience in the financial industry. He joined Arnerich Massena in 2006, and previously held positions as data administrator and performance measurement analyst. He holds a Bachelor of Science in political science from the University of Oregon. He is currently pursuing his CAIA Level I. Matt Bryant serves on the advisory board for Mobile RQ, a Portland marketing technology company, and is a board member of the Construct Foundation.

Matt Bryant has been an I AM Learning Partner for more than eight years. Mukunda Loprinzi focuses both on investment research and on platform and service provider research for institutional clients. His fund platform analysis responsibilities include the identification and evaluation of fees and expenses associated with plan investments, analysis of investment options and services, review of institutional relationships, negotiation of fees and contracts, and monitoring of revenue sharing arrangements. Investment research responsibilities include the sourcing of new investment managers and the completion of primary and ongoing due diligence within the traditional and alternative investment universes.

Mr. Loprinzi has more than 16 years of experience in the financial industry. He first joined Arnerich Massena in 2001 as a performance measurement analyst. In 2003, Mr. Loprinzi left to attend law school, rejoining Arnerich Massena in 2007 as an analyst. During the intervening years between his departure from and return to Arnerich Massena, Mr. Loprinzi interned for the Honorable Anna J. Brown of the United States District Court for the District of Oregon, worked for the Oregon State Bar, and served the Classroom Law Project, assisting junior high school students with mock trial camps.

Mr. Loprinzi holds a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Lewis & Clark College and a Juris Doctorate from Lewis & Clark Law School.

Benjamin Larsen’s primary responsibilities include researching and sourcing new investment managers and completing ongoing due diligence. Additional responsibilities include client projects such as fund manager searches, investment portfolio analysis, investment policy development, and industry analysis.

Mr. Larsen joined Arnerich Massena in 2018; he brings two years of previous experience as an investment analyst for the Azusa Pacific University Student Investment Fund. He also served at Suite America as a project manager for their intern housing program, and as the MVP sales & services intern for the L.A. Clippers.

Benjamin Larsen earned his B.S. magna cum laude in business economics at Azusa Pacific University. With the Azusa Pacific University School of Business and Management, he traveled abroad to Ireland, England, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy to conduct analysis on international companies.

As executive assistant, Debby DeVries has provided support to Arnerich Massena’s CEO for more than ten years. She also provides executive and administrative support to a number of senior executives and investment advisors, serving as liaison between supported individuals, the internal organization, clients, and providers. As administrative team lead, Debby DeVries is responsible for oversight of Arnerich Massena’s administrative team.

Mrs. DeVries has more than 17 years of experience as an executive assistant and another 13 years of experience as a paralegal. Prior to joining Arnerich Massena in 2008, she served as executive assistant to the CFO at Guardian Management and previously as executive assistant to the presidents of two companies and the senior partner of an established law firm. Debby DeVries has an Associate’s degree as a paralegal.

Mrs. DeVries has been an I AM Learning Partner for nine years. I AM Learning Partners volunteer as mentors, working directly with children in Arnerich Massena’s I AM Learning Partnership math, literacy, enrichment, and summer camp programs at a local elementary school. Additionally, she volunteers serving in a local soup kitchen.

Karl Hausafus is the general counsel and chief compliance officer of Arnerich Massena, with overall responsibility for the firm’s legal and compliance functions. Mr. Hausafus is a principal of the firm and serves as chair of the firm’s Board of Directors.

Mr. Hausafus brings more than 18 years of legal and compliance experience. Prior to rejoining Arnerich Massena in 2017, Mr. Hausafus served as the firm’s general counsel and chief compliance officer from 2010 to 2016. He has also served as chief legal officer for Saturna Capital Corporation, a global asset-management firm and investment advisor for a family of publicly-traded mutual funds; as general counsel and chief compliance officer for the Oregon State Treasury, where he directed the legal and compliance functions for the State’s $90 billion investment program; as general counsel and chief compliance officer of Compass Holdings, LLC, an Oregon-based private investment fund manager and SEC-registered investment advisor; and as senior associate attorney with Preston Gates & Ellis, LLP (n.k.a. K&L Gates LLP), where he advised both public and private companies on general securities and business issues.

Mr. Hausafus earned his Juris Doctorate from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College and holds a Bachelor of Science in marketing and business management from the University of Oregon. He is a former FINRA Series 7 and 24 license holder, and current FINRA Series 66 license holder.

As director of operations, Shelly Kapoor is responsible for firm-wide day-to-day operations, facilitating information flow, efficiency, and scalability, and for cross-departmental coordination of client and internal deliverables. She provides oversight of the company’s Performance Measurement, Portfolio Administration, and Production Departments, and works closely with Human Resources and Information Technology to ensure that strategic and operational objectives are met.

Ms. Kapoor brings more than 15 years of experience in the finance industry, and an additional five years of consulting, human resources, and operational experience for clients, including the Rockefeller Foundation. Prior to joining Arnerich Massena in 2019, she spent a majority of her career managing investment operations for Ziff Brothers Investments, a private family investment firm in New York City.

Shelly Kapoor earned a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in psychology from Tufts University. She has also received training from Columbia University’s Executive Coaching, Institute for Personal Leadership, McChrystal Group, and Corporate Coaching International.

Mr. Vaughan has more than 18 years of experience. Prior to joining Arnerich Massena in 2000, he served as an IT consultant for several Portland firms.

David Vaughan earned his B.S. in computer information systems from Missouri State University.

As controller, Kevin Finn is responsible for quarterly and annual financial and tax reporting, overseeing the company’s billing and payable functions, financial forecasting, and maintaining relationships with the firm’s banks. He is also responsible for training and supervising the firm’s finance team, and serves as a subject matter expert on accounting and billing software systems.

Mr. Finn has more than 14 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Arnerich Massena in 2016, he served as accounting supervisor at Vinfen Corporation, where he oversaw a staff of four general ledger accounts, as accounting manager at Fidelity Investments providing financial reporting for the firm’s employee-owned limited partnerships, and as senior accountant at Cambridge Associates, where he provided financial reporting for the firm’s foreign subsidiaries.

Kevin Finn earned his MBA and Master’s degree in accounting from Northeastern University. He is a Certified Public Accountant.

As director of human resources, Alicia Johnston is responsible for the recruitment and hiring of Arnerich Massena employees, administration of employee benefit programs, and compliance with employment laws. She provides training, guidance, and direction related to employee relations and consultation to management in all areas of human resources and multiple operational functions.

Alicia Johnston joined Arnerich Massena in 2009 and previously served the firm as technology coordinator, marketing and administrative coordinator, and senior administrative assistant. Prior to that, she served at ScanlanKemperBard Companies for six years, most recently as office and human resource manager.

Alicia Johnston holds a Bachelor of Arts from Colorado College. She also holds a Certificate of Comprehensive Human Resource Management from Portland State University Professional Development Center.

As director of communications, Jillian Perkins is responsible for guiding the strategic planning of Arnerich Massena’s communication and marketing, including oversight of all external corporate communication and public relations. She provides leadership to the communications department and manages the development of all marketing collateral. An award-winning writer, Ms. Perkins directs the research and development of the firm’s white papers and other printed and online publications.

Ms. Perkins joined Arnerich Massena in 1999; previous to her role as communications manager, Ms. Perkins served as senior staff writer for Arnerich Massena Education, responsible for the development of retirement plan sponsor and participant education materials. She served as editor for the firm’s nationally distributed participant newsletter, Reach for Your Dreams™ and plan sponsor newsletter, DC Solutions™. In addition to more than 20 years in the industry, her professional background includes several years in project management and curriculum development.
