Umpqua Community College Foundation held their second annual Legacy Ball fundraiser on Friday, November 10. A masquerade ball, the event raised funds to “unmask the power of an education.” The evening celebrated UCC students and raised funds for scholarships endowed in the names of the Umpqua Nine, who lost their lives on October 1, 2015. Tony Arnerich was featured as the Social Impact Keynote speaker at the Bend Venture Conference, the largest Angel Conference in the Pacific Northwest. The event took place on October 19-20, 2017 in beautiful downtown Bend at the historic Tower Theatre. Tony discussed the transition from private wealth management to impact investing, and led into the Social Impact competition on Thursday afternoon to an audience of 600 investors, entrepreneurs, and fund managers. Portland State University and the PSU Foundation hosted the 18th Annual Simon Benson Awards on Thursday, Nov. 9. to honor philanthropy and community involvement. The evening featured keynote speaker Captain Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger, who became internationally renowned after guiding US Airways Flight 1549 to an emergency water landing in the Hudson River. 2017 honorees included Pete Nickerson, a global entrepreneur and past chair of the PSU Board of Trustees, and Dorothy Lemelson, who serves as chair of the Lemelson Foundation.
