Arnerich Massena Welcomes Ryan Aaker as Helpdesk Support

We are excited to welcome Ryan Aaker, the newest member of the Arnerich Massena team. Ryan is joining the Technology Department and will be providing helpdesk support. We asked Ryan to go “beyond the bio” and share a little bit about himself:

What is your favorite restaurant in Portland?

Bar Maven, on SE Foster – they have great Mediterranean food, an awesome happy hour, and they make all their drinks with fresh-squeezed juice. Try the Fresh-Squeezed Greyhound, with vodka and grapefruit juice.

What is a book you recently read and enjoyed?

I recently read the first Game of Thrones book by George R.R. Martin. I’m a fan of the show, but finally read the book and really enjoyed it. Now I have four more to read!

What is your favorite recent film?

The Revenant and Mad Max were both great.

What is your favorite app?

I use the new Reddit app, called Reddit is Fun. There is a sub-reddit for just about anything you can think of, even knitting (I don’t subscribe to that one, by the way).

What’s the strangest job you’ve ever had?

I used to do a lot of ranch hand work in Southern Oregon, working for my uncle or a local teacher who hired high school students. There was a great deal of shoveling horse manure; it was hard work. We got to hang out a lot with horses; they each have a very unique, distinct personality that you get to know.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Spain or Australia

Do you have a favorite hobby?

Motorcycling (I have a KTM 690), and cars and racing in general.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever given/been given?

It’s not about what or how much you know, it’s about knowing how to find out. In tech, this is so true; there is an infinite number of problems you can come across; the important thing is not to know everything, but to know how to find the solution to any unexpected problem.

If you could have one superpower, what would you choose?

Maybe to be able to heal really fast, Deadpool-style, but flying and teleportation would also be pretty awesome.
