Volunteers of America DePreist Award for Excellence Honors Gary R. Maffei

Gary R. Maffei was honored on Friday September 9 at the Portland Art Museum with the DePreist Award for Excellence, given to honorees who have made Portland and Oregon a better place to live, work, and grow. (James and Ginette DePreist were the inaugural recipients, recognized for civic values and a commitment to our community.) Maffei has spent his life “doing good” in his hometown of Portland, supporting nonprofit organizations including CASA, Our House, OMSI, The Grotto, and others. Saturday, September 10 is Polo Noir, a “single day experience in Portland, celebrating the sport of kings, Oregon wine, & live music.” Opening ceremonies begin just after noon, followed by two polo matches, a divot stomp, and live music from three-time Grammy Award-winner Ben Harper and special guest Ellen Harper. “The event of summer,” as it is dubbed, will be held at the Portland Polo Fields, home of the Hidden Creek Polo Club in West Linn. The event, hosted by Markets Group, was held on July 21, 2016 at the Columbia Tower Club in downtown Seattle, and was attended by a variety of industry professionals. TEDx Portland was Tremendous

It was the 6th annual TEDxPortland event on April 9, 2016. A sold-out crowd filled the 3,000 seats at the Keller Auditorium, and another estimated 700,000 people watched the event stream live.
