Arnerich Massena is pleased to announce that the firm is one of 20 financial advisory firms selected for the 2019 Invest in Others Charitable Champions List, which recognizes advisory firms for their exemplary efforts to give back to their communities by promoting a culture of philanthropy among employees and financial advisors. Invest in Others received dozens of applications, which were evaluated blindly by a judging panel comprised of financial advisors. Applications were evaluated on criteria including employee benefits, company and employee philanthropic contributions, and philanthropic events and programs offered by the firms.
Arnerich Massena was awarded this special honor thanks in part to its robust community service program, the I AM Learning Partnership. The I AM Learning Partnership is in its 24th year of providing direct education support and mentorship to assist underperforming students meet state benchmarks in literacy and math. The program includes before-school tutoring in math and reading; direct literacy instruction during school hours; after-school clubs like STEAM Club, Math Academy, and Girls’ Club; and free summer camps. We estimate that we reach an average of 220 students annually, with remarkable success in improving outcomes. Two full-time employees coordinate the programs in our local Irvington Elementary School, and a large percentage of Arnerich Massena employees volunteer their time to participate. “The I AM Learning Partnership is one of the things that we are most proud of, after 28 years of being in business,” says co-CEO Tony Arnerich. “We set out to be an example of business in partnership with community, to demonstrate the possibilities. We now have adults returning who participated in our programs when they were children and telling us what a difference the programs made in their lives – it’s incredible. We’re so pleased and honored to be recognized with this award from Invest in Others.”
Christine Arnerich, executive director of the program, tells the story of two young women she recently hired to assist in the 2019 summer camps hosted by the I AM Learning Partnership. “Both of these young women participated in the I AM Learning Partnership programs when they were in fourth and fifth grade,” she remarks. “Both of them are now educators themselves, and attribute many of their successes to the support and encouragement they received from our program and the mentors they worked with. This is what makes it all worthwhile.”
Co-CEO Bryan Shipley, CFA, CAIA, notes that Arnerich Massena’s philanthropic strategy extends even beyond the award-winning I AM Learning Partnership programs. “We organize a Giving Tree each year,” he says, “which helps about 40 local children in need during the holiday season. And we work with local non-profit organizations to publish an annual Giving Guide for generous donors looking for organizations that are doing amazing work in the community. We also provide direct financial and fundraising support to our many non-profit clients. Furthermore, we have a philanthropic advisor on staff to help our clients build long-term charitable giving strategies. Philanthropy is really a core value of who we are.”
