We are excited to welcome our new senior wealth planning advisor, Pradeep Tempalli, CFP®, AWMA®. He joins the wealth management team and will provide comprehensive financial planning, estate planning, and investment advice to high net worth clients. We invited Pradeep to share a bit about himself, “beyond the bio:”
What is your favorite restaurant in Portland?
The Bollywood Theater – there’s one on SE Division and one on NE Alberta. Try the fried okra, which is delicious.
What book would you recommend?
Growing up in a family of physicians, my childhood reading included Gray’s Anatomy and other medical texts, so I find it virtually impossible to read fiction. I enjoy textbooks and owner’s manuals! But one book that I think people would like is A Random Walk Down Wall Street by Burton G. Malkiel – it’s a fantastic book about investing, full of fascinating information.
What is your favorite film?
Wall Street – the classic with Michael Douglas – is one of my favorites. I also enjoyed the recent films Margin Call and The Big Short.
What’s the strangest job you’ve ever had?
As a student at Oregon State University, I was a graduate research assistant, and for my first job, they placed me in the potato plant breeding department. My job – for real – was to dig potatoes, fry them, and then grade them! I graded them on various factors like color, fry-ability, starchiness, size, etc. OSU has a huge agricultural program, and some of this research is funded by fast food companies looking for the perfect potatoes to turn into French fries.
Where is your favorite place to which you’ve traveled?
Dubai is amazing, especially in December when the weather is perfect. It’s very different; for instance, the police drive Lamborghinis and Ferraris. The world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, is in Dubai (163 floors), as is the world’s only seven-star hotel, the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, which makes New York’s Ritz Carlton look like a Holiday Inn by comparison. Visitors to the Jumeirah get their own personal butler, available at all times. Take a look at a few photos from Dubai below.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Peppa Pig World in London. My son is a huge fan!
Do you have a favorite hobby?
I love listening to music – all kinds, but especially Indian music. My favorite artist is A R. Rahman, the composer who created the music for Slumdog Millionaire.
I also love driving. I used to go out to PIR to race my BMW Z4 on the track. My son is taking after me, and has become a fan of BMWs!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever given/been given?
Nothing is impossible. If you set a goal and work hard, you can do anything.
If you could have one superpower, what would you choose?
The power to heal people of cancer.
