“There are moments when things shift drastically, and we are experiencing one of those moments now,” opens Co-CEO and Chief Investment Officer Bryan Shipley, CFA, CAIA, in “Beyond Public Equity,” which appears in the Portland Business Journal’s Money Guide this month, alongside the list of Oregon & SW Washington Money Managers, in which the firm features near the top. Investors who have used stocks and bonds to balance one another out have been taken by surprise by the current markets, which have seen both of them struggle at the same time, and Shipley suggests some new avenues for investors looking beyond stocks and bonds. “Fortunately, the investable universe is much broader than traditional public stocks and bonds, and that larger universe is becoming ever more accessible to investors,” he says.
“Historically, alternatives have been difficult for investors to access…But the industry has worked hard to find creative ways to make these markets more accessible to investors in ways that meet their needs for ease, transparency, and liquidity.” Shipley explains how investors may be able to access alternative investments more easily than ever before. “Investors seeking to go beyond public equity may find that the possibilities are opening up, and that alternative investing offers diversification benefits that are becoming more difficult to implement in public markets.” Read the full article on p.27 here, or download it below.
