“Women need to be advocates for their own career advancement, especially in male-dominated industries. You need to make your voice heard, and be intentional in expressing your goals and objectives.” Medium.com’s Authority Magazine reporter Ming Zhao asked Arnerich Massena Co-CEO Reegan Rae, CPWA®, how she thrives in the male-dominated investment industry, and shares her insights in an in-depth interview.
In the interview, Reegan discusses the challenges and obstacles she has faced in her career, and the tools and traits that have helped her meet those challenges and thrive. Tenacity, she says, is crucial: “Tenacity is about more than just not giving up; it’s also about resisting the forces that try to re-shape you. We all bring something unique to the table, but it’s easy to let that erode in the face of demands to conform.” She also credits courage and confidence, describing the importance of speaking up even when it’s uncomfortable. She explains that one of the most critical keys to success is an attitude of curiosity and empathy, seeking ways to learn from people around you and build relationships. “Male-dominated industries are often highly competitive and relationships can be antagonistic. I have found that success is much more likely when you focus on building relationships, working with people not against them, and engaging as a member of a team.”
Ideally, says Reegan, “we should be working to move away from having fields that are male-dominated or female-dominated at all,” and she hopes to be part of making this industry diverse and welcoming to all.
