“For those making market and other investments, the new year frequently provides a great milepost to explore where one stands,” begins Portland Business Journal managing editor Andy Giegerich’s article that looks to Portland investment experts to discuss what they are seeing for the coming twelve months. First on his list as subject matter expert and thought leader was Reegan Rae, principal and managing director at Arnerich Massena. “’Looking ahead, with interest rates near historical lows, bonds face tremendous headwinds to generate positive real returns for investors. Investors need to look beyond traditional income-generating investments to other strategies and structures that are capable of generating positive real returns while also providing diversification benefits to investment portfolios,’” begin Reegan’s quoted remarks. In the article, she discusses how recent trends in the stock market are offering unique opportunities: “’Looking forward, we don’t see quite as robust an opportunity set for stocks but there are still areas of the market that look interesting for those willing to look beyond the herd,’ Rae said.”
Author Giegerich offers some of Reegan’s thoughts on impact and ESG-related investments as well, as she notes the growing interest in and enthusiasm “’as investors become more aware of the global challenges we face and how capital may be able to help meet those challenges while taking advantage of growth opportunities made possible by innovators, entrepreneurs, inventors and leaders.’” She also weighs in on wealth planning topics, looking at how the Covid pandemic has provided an impetus for clients to focus on long-term legacy and estate planning.
