Women gained the right to vote on August 26, 1920, and that day is now designated as Women’s Equality Day, an observation of “the continuous struggle for women’s participation and equality in all spheres of life.” On Aug. 26 this year, we celebrate and commemorate the fight for equal rights. This is a great day to thank the women in your life, acknowledging the hard work and effort they put in that sometimes goes unseen.
At Arnerich Massena, we’re very proud to be a force for equality. “Not only are we materially women-owned, a rarity in financial services,” says Co-CEO Reegan Rae, CPWA®, “but we have a balance of men and women on both our leadership and advisory teams. We’ve found that having both genders on our team better serves our clients and can improve long-term outcomes.” Contrast this with an industry in which only 5% of CEOs and 15% of advisors are women. “We want to extend this legacy to future generations of female financial professionals, which is why we are so excited to partner with Rock the Street Wall Street, and help mentor and educate young women who are interested in careers in the investment industry.”
Even as we celebrate the gains that have been made toward equal rights, there are still challenges ahead. National Today points out that there are still 18 countries where husbands can prevent their wives from working, that only six countries give women equal work rights as men, and that in 39 countries, sons and daughters do not share equal inheritance rights. In the investment industry, Deloitte Insights reports that only 21% of board seats, 19% of C-suite roles, and 5% of CEO positions are held by women.
