The average student loan debt for Class of 2017 college graduates was $39,400, up 6% from the previous year. In total, Americans owe more than $1.48 trillion in student loan debt. The average monthly payment on student loan debt is $351. Sixty-six percent of public college graduates have loans, with an average debt of $32,300.
